Revelations about apres ski (BO)

If a disc is legendary Quebecois, it is the soundtrack to the cult soft-porn Quebec apres ski. Finally, we know who is really behind this disc highly sought after!

Besides, there's the group Erotic PQ playing some pieces found there. They decorate their concerts with a tantalizing selection of titles found on other tapes of the film movement that England have named maple syrup porn . They will be in concert on March 4 in Montreal. This is not to be missed.

Mimi's blog la carte and Simon Psychébélique you both spoke of the soundtrack of apres ski. I leave the description of this masterpiece.

Like them, I succumbed to the charms of this excellent disc groovy funk, jazz and pig. Strangely, the songs found in funk instrumental B-side of this disc, these pieces are its reputation and quality, are anonymous, almost. No group or musician is credited. Jacques Crevier city appears as an artist behind the cover and Diane Huggan is credited on the disc label. But everyone suspects that these songs hold more than two names.

The manic music history in Quebec have all posed the same question: Who is the real artist behind the holy grail of funk Quebec?

the rumor mill is generous! Some have heard that this is actually the group Chicago who played it. Others believe it's an American who would come here time of this recording. I figured it was probably only hired session musicians to record the time. The story takes

a new turn. Composers and musicians who gave us the soundtrack of apres ski are now known.

drumroll ...

This group Illustration , formed in Montreal, Quebec, Ontario and the U.S., and led by a shadowy figure but how important John Ranger.

go back to origins.

Kenny & The Be-Bops - Lindy Lou

Ranger John is originally from North Bay, Ontario. From the end of his teens, he played with the band rock'n'roll Kenny & The Be-Bops. Their excellent Lindy Lou happen elsewhere in history, having been compiled on Early Canadian Rockers vol. 1 .

Ranger then passes on the side of Rouyn-Noranda, where he joined the group The Flaming Stars, replacing the organ none other than Donald Seward, who will then become part of Caesar and the Romans!

The Jades

Extract from the first 45 laps of The Jades - Chicken fried rice (circa '64)

The Flaming Stars quickly became The Jades. This orchestra will publish a first 45 laps in his R & B during the first half of the 60s, before going into exile in the United States and will operate in the circuit of bars and dance halls. The Jades resurfaced in Quebec in 68 with a 45 obscure Garage Sale introduced you to his early . During their visits to Montreal, The Jades often occur at the legendary Esquire Show Bar, room of choice for r'n'b. They share the stage with The Isley Brothers, Sam & Dave, Bill Doggett, Don Gardener & Dee Dee Ford, Bo Diddley, Frog Man Henry, King Curtis and many others.

The group split into '69 and this is a new project was born. The Montreal

soul / r'n'b Jimmy Mann & The Dynamics and The Jades intersect to form a supergroup of funk rock to Blood, Sweat & Tears: The Sound Syndicate. Preview

Jimmy Mann & The Dynamics - Haunted House

This union of sound is formed by artists of different origins, a section of copper solid and the bulk of a rock band, led by John Ranger B3 organ.

The Sound Syndicate, 1969

The Sound Syndicate plays throughout the Northeast United States. The group landed a contract for a single album with the New York company Janus Records. By the end of the recording, The Sound Syndicate becomes Illustration. Following gig on American soil, crop Illustration in passing a significant mention in Rolling Stone magazine . Their only album is definitely worth a visit: hot funk, some jazz influences and psychedelic rock blend together to create a sound quite unique its kind.

Illustration - The sweet fox (RB Après-Ski)

By 1971, Picture is back in Montreal. Reached by email, Ranger John explains the circumstances that led the group to record songs from the apres ski.

"At the time that sound track Recorded weekends, We Were playing in Montreal and We Were Not Enough making money. We Were a ten piece band at That Time, and MOST clubs Did Not Have the money to pay us. I got a year The offer to do music for the film ... so I Told The Producer That I had a lot of We Could original instrumentals record. I really did "not want to use 'em for That, to weekends Needed the money, We Did The social session. We did it all in one take no overdubs. All the music WAS writen by me EXCEPT one. "

shock revelation!
If the songs are composed by Mr. Ranger, what then was the role of Jacques Crevier?

" Jacques Crevier did "nothing. He IS a fake. He Took All the Credit, goal I Did All the writing. "

involvement even Jacques Crevier in this story is challenged.

On his website, John Ranger explains that the name Exhibit no is not appeared on the album for legal reasons ... probably prevented by the contract binding them to Janus Records.

Still on its website and on a site dedicated solely to the group Picture , there are several other additional information about the recording session that led to the masterpiece that is the soundtrack of After-Ski.

Everything was recorded at RCA Victor Studio Montreal. Musicians and members of Illustration present were: Richard Terry

Low
Garry Beattie - Guitar Johnny
Ranger - Organ
Claude Roy - Drums Billy
Ledster - Glenn Higgins
Voice - Tenor Sax
Norman Burgess - Baritone Sax
Roger Homefield - Benoit Perreault
Trombone - Trumpet Billy Shiel
- Trumpet

In reading this list, you do not see many sounding name Quebec strain, if Claude Roy (drums) and Benoit Perreault ( trumpet). We are therefore entitled to ask that part of the soundtrack of apres ski can really count as a work of Quebec itself. If you want my opinion, there's no more Quebecois than that! A bit like the band The Naughty, we find here a great melting pot of cultural and musical influences that results in a masterstroke of sucroît associated with a very good movie of the pop culture of the 70 Quebec: After-Ski.

In an interview, Mr. Ranger also adds that he never sold his copyright:
"We Never Gave Our Rights Because We Were going to record Those Later On Our next album down the road."

It is therefore understood that the songs on After-Ski illustration was compositions were recorded on an upcoming album ... which has unfortunately never materialized.

Illustration, eponymous, 1971, Janus Records

If we look at his first album Illustration we note sounds similar to those found in After-Ski, including Listen horns at the end of Upon the earth .

Illustration - Upon the earth

Believe me, if you like what you hear here, the full album of Illustration worth it!

Illustration was therefore a great Montreal group disregarded. A group that gave us a music of rare quality, not counting the stars with whom he shared the stage Illustration: Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Miles Davis, HP Riot Funkadelic ... they have even been the backing band of Tina Turner, just one night in Miami.

stewardship of illustration seems to lead the group nowhere. It's nearing the end of this project. But Ranger has new ambitions. He and some members of the Illustration go train hard rock psychedelic progressive tendencies Man Made.

Their sole self-titled album, recorded by Andrew Perry, born in 1973, on Good Noise record label, owned by sound engineer in question.

Man Made, eponymous, 1973, Good Noise Records

Made Man - Keep on moving

Ranger John composed the song Man Made that lasts the whole of side A of this album.

Ranger John's career extends for a long time thereafter. The members of Man Made are including all the song Dracula disco disco Bribosia Gerry, former lead singer of Les Miserables!

I'll let you see details on the site of John Ranger - a very complete and informative as desired. All photos, some audio clips and information for this article are taken from the sites and johnranger.com maquiavelito.com

A huge thank you to Mr. Ranger for his participation in this article, and Ms. Lucie Brousseau who put me the chip to ear about this story.

Long story short, We Just Discovered Who Actually IS Behind the funky groovy tunes of the classic Apres-Ski OST. The band's name is Image.

The story Begins with John Ranger, from North Bay, Ontario. His first band WAS Kenny & The Be-Bops With Whom he
Recorded Lindy Lou , That Was comped it Early canadian rockers Vol. 1.

He then moved on to Rouyn-Noranda where he joined The Flaming Stars, replacing Donald Seward on the organ. The Flaming Stars soon evolved to The Jades, a band that often played at the Esquire Show Bar in Montreal before leaving for the United States. They came back in Quebec around 68, launched a last 45, which was featured on Vente de garage about 2 years ago, and then joined forces with Montreal r'n'b combo Jimmy Mann & The Dynamics to form the rock funk band The Sound Syndicate.

The Sound Syndicate went down to New York, got a record deal, changed their name to Illustration and performed with tons of people, from Rod Steward to Funkadelic, even backing Tine Turner in Miami!

Back in Montreal, Illustration was invited to contribute to the
Apres-Ski OST . The band needed that money, so they basically played the songs they had written for their second album, which never was recorded. John Ranger wrote most of the songs. Jacques Crevier, who was credited on the album as the composer, basically did nothing at all, according to Mr. Ranger.

A part of Illustration then became the excellent psych/prog band Man Made. John Ranger had quite an impressive musical career. Check it out on his website .

Thank you so much, Mr. Ranger, for your contribution to this article. Thanks also to Lucie Brousseau who opened the door to this story.

First Garage Sale broadened its scope and its record label this!

The Hard Pluto

A first 45 limited edition (100 copies) of Donald Seward be launched next March 19 at Divan Orange. The Sound of Sea Animals, Buddy McNeil & The Magic Mirrors, Ghosts and several DJs will be invited to the party. Great party in the offing!

See all the details on the site Pluto .

Secondly, we are talking garage sale in France! Our friend William
aka DJ 716 has proposed to set up a small library for her blog. Ben
here the playlist Quebec soul of Garage Sales, dedicated to our French cousins.

Third, we recently learned that our favorite group-still-in-life-of-the-planet-full, Reigning Sound, are coming to Montreal in June with The A -Bones! Whoa!
Another excellent initiative of our friends Teenbeat Takeover! This is not to be missed - ABSOLUTELY NOT!
My gut tells me we will try to interview Greg Cartwright for the occasion ... Stay tuned!

And finally, I have published, there's some time, a huge dossier on the history of Quebec Hardcore 's website Band of Outsiders.
This work is the result of research that lasted over a year. If you are interested in underground music in Quebec, you will probably find something for you to sink your teeth into this folder.

I find it hard to follow. . . the activities of spies from the Gare de Perpignan, nest of spies.

Where are they really gone?. . . . I believe that today one of Duquerroigt. . . Perhaps the one who calls himself David Domitian, which was a time in Belgium and Ecuador is in Palestine. . . or Jordan, or Egypt?

as I know he would try to infiltrate a group of semi-nomadic Bedouins.
For what purpose?
In its place, I'm wary as Mossad that of Al-Qaeda in the region.
It would have seen, also in Djibouti.

In my opinion, some of these false movements are just propaganda.
